Assistants
An assistant is a named configuration of the same brain that you start a chat with: "Release notes", "Inbox triage", "Sales research". It has:
- a name, an emoji and a short description;
- instructions (up to 8,000 characters);
- knowledge notes it always reads (up to 10);
- an app allow-list: the connected apps it may use (it can only restrict, never add);
- a default model tier;
- up to four conversation starters, shown when a chat begins.
A chat with no assistant is a chat with Crewdesk itself.
Starting a chat with one
Pick it when you start a new chat in the app, type /assistant NAME (/assistant off for Crewdesk), or start the CLI with crewdesk --assistant NAME. crewdesk assistants lists them. A chat keeps the assistant it started with.
Personal and shared
You create and edit your own assistants in Settings → Assistants. Organization admins can share an assistant with the whole organization; see Sharing assistants.
What an assistant can't do
Its instructions reach the agent below every rule of Crewdesk's, as your preferences. They never skip an approval card, change the permission mode, loosen the organization policy, touch a secret or unlock anything. Saving refuses instructions that contain a credential, an e-mail address or prompt markup.
Removing an app from an assistant's allow-list takes effect at once, in every chat that uses it.
