Working on code
Open a folder (see Workspace) and the agent can work on it the way you would.
Files
The agent lists, reads, searches, writes, edits and deletes files in the folder, and can list and extract archives (zip and tar). Some things are always off-limits:
- paths outside the folder (including through a symbolic link) and the
.gitfolder; - secret files (
.env, keys, certificates): listed by name, never read, searched or diffed; - dependency folders such as
node_modulesand.venvare not gone into, and binary or very large files are not read.
Every change is kept for undo.
Commands
The agent runs commands (installs, builds, tests, scripts) and streams their output under the tool row. Long-running ones, such as a dev server or a watcher, run in the background (a few at a time); /ps in the terminal lists them and stops one, and they all end when you quit.
Whether a command asks first depends on your permission mode and the sandbox. sudo is always refused. Docker runs only as a few docker compose commands, and asks.
If a command needs a runtime your computer lacks (Node, for instance), the agent can install a pinned, checksum-verified version into Crewdesk's own tools folder, for that chat's commands only, without sudo.
Git
The agent can check status and diffs, commit (locally, hooks off, never a secret) and push. A push asks on a card first and follows strict rules: one local branch to its namesake, never forced, no tags, only to a remote the repository already has or to a GitHub https address, and refused if a commit adds a secret file. It signs in with your own git credentials (your credential helper, or your SSH keys); Crewdesk stores no git token.
To create a new GitHub repository, the agent uses your GitHub connection in AMP, as an app action you approve.
New projects
The agent can start a new project from a template:
- Frontend: Vite and React, for a landing page or any static site.
- Fullstack: a React frontend, a FastAPI API, a CrewAI project and Postgres, started together with
docker compose.
Seeing your app
- Preview: when a command starts a local dev server, the app shows the running frontend in the panel beside the chat, with Reload, Open in browser and Close.
- Browser: the agent opens pages in a headless browser on your Mac to read them as a person sees them and to take screenshots on desktop and mobile. The browser is installed the first time it's needed.
- Visual check: after it changes a screen, the agent looks at it and fixes what looks wrong. See Workspace.
- Remote preview: the agent can run your folder's app off your computer and give you a link to share. You approve it on a card; the folder is packed without secrets.
/previewand/previewsin the terminal.
Deploying a CrewAI project
If the folder holds a CrewAI project, the agent can deploy it to AMP in your organization. A deploy is a write and goes through a card; a production deploy asks in every mode.
